F Jimmy Hendrix had played accordion, it might have sounded something like this. Feedback screeches from the speakers as Hans-Peter Flanker, aged 26, wresles with the writhing squeeze-box. Eyes shout tight, his ruddy face wears a look of pained ecstasy. Markus aged 29 doesn’t just beat his drums, he lashes them to keep up the incessant rhythms needed to accompany his torrent of words. Together they are Attwenger. Austria’s new cult band, combining alpine folktunes with modern rap in a unique musical fusion which won their second album, Pflug the title best Austrian album of 1992.

Now, Attwenger has produces a follow-up LP. Luft (Air) and embarked upon a tour bring Luft to the growing audience.
